Arsen Lüpen (Mis Sokak 15/4, Beyoğlu, Istanbul) — this nightspot is located within the lively Beyoğlu district. To say Arsen Lüpen is a hidden spot is a little of an understatement. Just getting there feels a little akin to a clandestine operation as you first enter into another restaurant, bypass the waiters and make for miniscule lift on the right. Take this contraption to the fourth floor to emerge into a grungy bar. There is often live music and bands play anything from swing to reggae to rock to Turkish folk, and there’s usually an alternative crowd dancing along.
Climb one more floor to reach the terrace that opens along one side. From here there are spectacular views of Istanbul that can be enjoyed with beer and nuts. Whilst it may not have the finesse of some of Istanbul’s other bars-with-a-view, it has a convivial and lively atmosphere, and a mixed crowd of locals, expats, students and young professionals.
